In honor of the 13th Apostle

Who’s in a Name?

I dedicate this to Sister Margaret Mary who is very ill at this time, and the other sisters at the Monastery of the Sacred Passion in Erlanger Kentucky. I think it is appropriate that these dedicated religious who have taken the name of Mary as their own (Mother Marie Michelle, Sister Mary Elizabeth, Sister Mary Catherine, and Sister Mary Angela) should be honored on the day we honor the name of Our Lord’s Mother. Let us all pray for them in their struggle to serve God and pray for their health in spirit, mind and body. Dear Blessed Virgin Mary, please pray, intercede, and be their advocate before the throne of God!

Jesus Loves Mama-An Apt Assumption

Having been deprived of my earthly mother and heavenly mother during my impressionable years, and with the former having joined the latter, I find myself coming back to Mary for something–what, I don’t know. If nothing else, I’m sure she can say “Hi” to Mom.

Paul Converts the Jailer

Saint with No Name

On this solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, I’d like to recall, in the spirit of Matthias, someone well-known and anonymous. Though not a part of today’s scripture readings, Paul and Silas’ jailer at Phillipi, was nearly lost to life, and then found eternal life when the Master of the Universe moved the earth for an early release of the two imprisoned evangelizers

Triple Delight

Suffering from a lighter than air literary sense, I seldom take on the weightier issues for fear of being punched by my own punchlines. In spite of this trepidation, at the behest of the 3rd person of the subject of this scratching, here is my encounter with the 3 in 1, hoping that I won’t have to pay thrice in eternity.

Celebrating Matthias Matthiastly

Invisible Apostle or Ascending Jesus? And if the Ascension is invisible (at least on Thursday) does that make Matthias manifest?

No-Yes Rather than Yes-No

I have a little arrangement with the Trinity. They propose; I say nos. I am trying to be less trying to the eye in the sky, but I’m a hard nut who’s cracked

St. Judas

Here’s the favorite whipping boy of the new covenant, who checked out scripturally before anyone could apply Jesus’ enemy loving philosophy to him. So can we, in good conscience still continue the whipping?
